Privacy Policy
How the ttdictionary apps and this website handle your data.
TTdictionary apps are built and published by ttdictionary. They are provided free of charge, supported by advertising, with an optional Pro subscription that removes ads, lifts feature limits and raises the AI request quota. This page explains what information the apps and this website handle, why, and what your choices are.
What the apps store on your device
Everything you create in a dictionary app stays on your device: favorites, bookmarks, notes, history, added and edited words, "I know it / I don't know it" marks, training statistics and settings. The dictionary databases themselves are also stored locally so that search works offline.
We do not have access to this data unless you choose to back it up (see below).
Information we may collect
- Advertising identifier and device data. Ad networks used in the free version (Google AdMob and, depending on the app and region, Yandex Ads, Appodeal or Meta Audience Network) may collect the advertising ID, IP address, device model, operating system version, language and coarse location to show and measure ads. You can reset or limit the advertising ID in your device settings, and in the EU/UK you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown.
- Crash and usage diagnostics. Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics collect anonymous crash reports and aggregated usage events (for example which screens are used) so that we can fix bugs and improve the apps. This data does not include the words you look up.
- Purchases. Pro subscriptions are processed by Google Play or the App Store and managed through RevenueCat. We receive an anonymous subscriber identifier and the subscription status, never your payment details.
- Remote configuration. The apps download configuration files (feature flags, ad settings, the dictionary catalogue) from our servers and Firebase Remote Config. These requests contain standard technical data such as IP address and app version.
AI features
When you use an AI command (explain a word, synonyms, pronunciation, find a missing word), the word or text you selected and the dictionary language are sent to our AI service and processed by a large language model. Requests are not linked to your name or account. Answers may be cached so that the same question is answered faster later. Free users have per-minute, hourly and daily limits; Pro users have higher limits. You can use the apps fully without ever using an AI command.
Backup
Backup is optional. If you enable online backup you sign in with a Google account and your dictionary data (favorites, bookmarks, notes, history, added words, settings) is uploaded to Firebase Storage associated with that account so that you can restore it on another device. Local file and Dropbox backups are stored where you choose. You can delete an online backup from the app at any time.
This website
ttdictionary.com is a static website. It uses Google Analytics 4 to measure visits (pages viewed, country, device type); Google may set cookies for this and processes the data under its own privacy policy. IP addresses are anonymised by Google Analytics 4. You can block analytics with a browser extension or by disabling cookies. When you download a dictionary database from this site, our web server records standard access logs (IP address, time, requested file) which are kept for a short period for security and capacity planning.
Third-party services
The apps rely on the following providers, each with its own privacy policy: Google Play Services, Google AdMob, Google Analytics, Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Remote Config, Storage, Authentication), RevenueCat, Yandex Ads, Appodeal, Meta Audience Network, Dropbox (only if you link it).
Children
The apps are not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Backups are stored in access-controlled cloud storage. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices
- Reset or limit the advertising ID and withdraw ad consent in the device or app settings.
- Use the apps offline: all core features work without a network connection.
- Do not enable backup, or delete your backup from the app.
- Subscribe to Pro to remove advertising entirely.
Terms of Use
Use of the apps, including Pro subscriptions (auto-renewable, monthly or yearly), is governed by our Terms of Use. On iOS the standard Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies: Terms of Use (EULA). Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period and can be managed in your App Store or Google Play account settings.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page together with the date below.
